The twentieth century witnessed an ambitious range of planning projects for new town capital cities around the world. While these projects were motivated by very different political, economic, and geographic conditions, many of them shared an enthusiasm for landscape as a medium of urbanism. Given the well documented and generally accepted flaws of modern planning, many of these projects have been received as failures in social, environmental, and cultural terms.
The 1st Seminar Topos - Landscape of Power: Reconsidering the Twentieth Century Capital Cities proposes cross disciplinary discussion into the historical claims, present status, and future potential of these modern capitals through their reconsideration around theory and practice. By presenting a range of lenses that include urbanism, architecture, ecology, and social engagement, this symposium will provide a space for imagining future possibilities of contemporary urbanism, and the role of equity in design.
TOPOS - Landscape, Design and Planning (University of Brasília) invites you to participate in the event, scheduled to take place in 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June, 2022, in a 100% online format.
